It’s not the world that’s the problem…

August 20, 2012

Angela Kukhan told me recently that the ultimate tool of manipulation is having the moral high ground.  After I was mind F!#%ed for a moment it made sense. To take a righteous attitude toward anything is to denigrate it. Joseph Cambell says “when we talk about settling the world’s problems, we’re barking up the wrong tree. The world is perfect. It’s a mess. It has always been a mess. We are not going to change it. Our job is to straighten out our own lives.” It is our ego that wants to control the world around us. We have to have the humility to surrender and look at ourselves. The world isn’t the problem. Peace starts from within and radiates out. We are what we pay attention to; so choose your thoughts wisely.  If all you see are lies and bigotry then you better check yourself. The world you live in is a reflection of you. Be the humble warrior, look inside and observe negative, accusatory thinking patterns.  Anger is not a healthy motivational force, it is a spiteful. Cultivate an authentic, supportive attitude and the world will support you.

“Those who look outside themselves dream.  Those who look inside themselves awaken.” –Carl Jung

yep. know yourself, love yourself . . . and enjoy the process; it’s a trip. there’s every sort of wonder along this journey. if we pay attention, it all seems to be designed to help us learn & grow & not just have more joy, but to appreciate it with graciousness, empathy & compassion. and it does require some fair amount of nurturing effort. thanks for sharing~!
